2 grand. Ouch. Also, my 2 door convertible apparently is also a 2 door sedan. However this is the same state that categorizes the Uplander as a wagon. Wait- that means I drive a convertible AND a wagon? Am I Oppo Mayor now?

The registration thingy for my work van has it valued at $1080. The other guy with the same kind as mine got $720.
Not sure about the Escort though. I’ll have to check when I get home.

Where a vehicle you paid taxes on when purchased, with your paycheck that’s been taxed, and a loan that’s been paid off for years garners an appraised value tax every year.

They appraised my dad’s 2000 ranger with 200k+ miles at like $8 grand. He drove it up there to the courts for appeal and it was promptly dropped.

State of GA values my M3 at $32450.00 which means if I get a job here and register it here, I owe $2271.50 in taxes.

I had never even heard of personal property tax until I started hearing about it on Oppo. There’s a lot to not like about my home state of Illinois (seriously, a LOT), but all the state asks of me to keep my vehicles on the road is that I write them a $101 check every year. Also in Chicagoland OBD2 vehicles need a no cost emissions check every other year.

You might have a titty but we have two boobs on ours.

I don’t recall the appraised values, but my tax bill for the ‘04 Scion xB, ‘64 Chevy C10 & ‘96 Suzuki GS500E motorcycle was $88.15.
For the first time in a few years my $200 utility trailer didn’t get assessed at $3500 or $4000 or some other crazy number. It was nice to avoid that yearly ritual.

Georgia would want $1,700 for my WRX. I finally found a reason to say Louisiana is better than Georgia!

We have personal property tax, registration fee, and a yearly inspection (but thankfully no emissions check)

Ridiculous isn’t it? My ex-wife bought a new car, paid a 7% sales tax, and then yearly ad valorem. We moved to colorado paid over $500 a year ad valorem. Moved back to GA (they had since changed their tax process to a 1 time 7% TAVT tax). We had to pay 7% again to register it. I think combined we paid like 25% in taxes on it.

Alabama...2015 Odyssey is ~$600/year and the 2001 Passat is $31/year, the minimum registration fee. Huge benefit to keeping your car a long time. BTW, we only pay $1,400 in property taxes on a 2,600SF house on a 1/3 acre of land. So it more than evens out, IMHO.

My Registration fee was $84 for the Milan.
We don’t do the personal property tax on them in Michigan. THANK GOD
My parents do down in South Carolina.

VA is crazy. I had a friend in grad school in PA whose dad was a landscaper with a fleet of leased diesel F250's. When he graduated, his dad bought out one of the leases and gave him the truck as a gift. He landed a his first job in VA and ended up waiting like 6 months to bring the truck so he could save up to pay the tax on the $45k appraisal.

LSU has petroleum engineering, no Georgia schools offer that. I kinda wish I went there and studied that, they actually offered me instate tuition too.

I’ll take the emissions check over an annual inspection. I’ve heard too many stories about shops taking advantage of that to sell bogus work at terrible prices.

Don’t get taxed on my car, only pay a $100 registration fee every year per car and a no cost ODBII scan twice a year for inspection.

Our assessed value is 70% of the vehicles market value and since I traded the G8 on my SS i’m gonna be getting a supplementary bill soon enough to cover the difference. I’m hoping it’s no more than like 30K assessed.:-(

The Sebring convertible is base on the sedan rather than the coupe, so it’s kinda accurate.

I don’t know about Virginia Beach, but my city assesses anything over 20 years old as $100, no matter what it is. Ridiculously inflated old 911? $100. Old beater? $100. 60s muscle car? $100. With the registration fee it comes up to about $30 in tax.

Depends where you go. My shop says “yeah, we know you work on your own car, so take care of it at some point”.

If it’s not land, Florida don’t give a fuck. There’s tag and registration, but that’s like $50/year.

Working for an A&E firm, I can speak to the quality of the engineers graduating from LSU. Be glad that you didn’t take the offer. Perhaps that’s a little harsh for the petroleum program, but if it reflects the quality of the rest of the school of engineering, let’s just say they aren’t even ranked in the top 50.

The school as a whole doesn’t make the top 100.

I left Virginia when I heard about that awful ‘property’ tax on cars, boats, motorcycles, planes, shoes, air in your lungs. Prolly pay more for the house tax, but still. Winning.
